Ok so decision made, now it was time for finding a kit.
I have always liked the original 70's beach buggy which was a Meyers Manx, created in the USA by Bruce Meyers
I joined the Southern Dune Buggy club as they are the biggest club locally and after chatting with a few members I was pointed in the direction of a Sidewinder buggy which has all the classic shape of the Manx but with modern modifications such as bigger arches to allow for big wheels and better clearance for the engine.
I contacted Mel Hubbard the maker of the Sidewinder and ordered a Metal flake Canadian Blue buggy shell with matching bucket seats and black diamond covers.
Mel is based in Norfolk so quite a drive from Surrey but well worth the trip.
Also in Norfolk and very close to Mel is Flatlands Engineering who have made their name in producing the best show buggies by far, they also supply loads of great parts for self builds so a phone call to them was made to place an order.
